Carlsberg Danish Royal Stout
Posted: 21 April 2015  Beer Republic 7.0
Carlsberg Danish Royal Stout from Malaysia Carlsberg's industrially produced Danish Royal Stout doesn't compete with the best of the world's stouts in taste, but given that it's less than half those other stouts' prices, even with the hefty Malaysian Islamic alcohol tax tacked on, the Danish Royal Stout proves a relative bargain for your hard-earned ringgits.
Avg price/liter: USD 6.88   ABV %: 8.0  Type: Stout Malaysia

Carlsberg is the second powerhouse brewer in Malaysia, trying to market its beers to the 40% of Malaysians who aren't practitioners of Islam.  They set up shop in 1969 and began selling their hallmark green label Carlsberg brews on Malaysian shores in 1972.

Twenty years later, Carlsberg flaunted their Danish Royal Stout in Malaysia, a touch of Christendom in an Islamic nation.

Lately, I've sampled a number of fine stouts, brewed in Japan and Belgium. Carlsberg's industrially produced Danish Royal Stout doesn't compete with the best of those in taste, but given that it's less than half those other stouts' prices, even with the hefty Malaysian Islamic alcohol tax tacked on, the Danish Royal Stout proves a relative bargain for your hard-earned ringgits.

No one comes to Malaysia expecting to sample the finest beers the world has to offer.  With taxes already high on local brews, the tastiest imports would be out of reach financially to only those with expense accounts, movie stars, or multi millionaire entrepreneurs.

Slumming it has never been so tasty.
