Mikkeller Citra Imperial IPA from Denmark Mikkeller's Citra Imperial IPA is named because it uses citra hops, a relatively new types of hops that has only been around since 2007. A good way to find out what citra hops is all about -- if you care.

An Imperial IPA is an India Pale Ale with a VERY strong alcohol content.

Mikkeller's Citra Imperial IPA is named because it uses citra hops, a relatively new types of hops that has only been around since 2007.  Mikkeller manufactures a line of beers, 19 in total, they call their single hop IPA's. Different amount of hopsare used in each to obtain the same level of bitterness.

I have a bias towards IPA's, and the Citra Imperial IPA, with its 8.9% abv, didn't have an overpowering alcohol taste  I've tried in other beers.   It was, on the other, surprising how refreshing this beer was, as it took me on a journey of intense intoxication.

A good way to find out what citra hops is all  about -- if you care.
