Up and coming Italian microbrewery Birra del Borgo teams up with Delaware-based brewery Dogfish Head for My Antonia.  Dogfish Head was one of the revolutionary breweries to come out of the 1990's.  Now, Birra del Borgo attaches its wagon to Dogfish's star to, hopefully, send its collaboration, My Antonia, into the stratosphere.

My Antonia is named after the author Willa Cather's most famous novel, published way back in 1918.  Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione first brewed My Antonia at Birra del Borgo's headquarters in 2008.  Two years later, Dogfish began brewing the beer back in Delaware.

My Antonia is billed as an continuously hopped imperial pilsner.  Translation: this beer is a heavily hopped and highly alcoholic lager.

This one is an experience. We're all used to imperial IPA's by now and imperial stouts, but imperial and hoppy lagers? This was a first.

A decent brew for what it is, but to me, it tasted more like an ale on the strong side and nothing like the light pilsners which have put pilsners on the map in the first place.  Think of a movie comedy.  Now you add some drama, then a bit more drama, then a bit more.  At some point, the movie is no longer a comedy -- it's a drama with some funny bits in it.

My Antonia started out as a lager but ended up as something you probably won't be enamored with.
