Hitachino Saison Du Japon
Posted: 2 June 2015  Beer Republic 6.5
Hitachino Saison du Japon from Japan The Saison Du Japon is about as refreshing as you'd demand from a saison.  But is it the saison to end all saisons? Saison Du Japon proves Hitachino can mimic and there is a hint that they can broaden, too.  But we already knew that.
Avg price/liter: USD 17.85   ABV %: 5.0 Type: Saison

It's always an honor when I get to try a new Hitachino Nest beer made by Kiuchi Brewery.   They've mimicked the craft beer revolution in the United States, but then made their mark by being distinctly Japanese.  Hitachino seems to incorporate Japanese ingredients and brewing techniques to come up with something that you probably wouldn't find outside Japan.

Hitachino's Saison Du Japon is their take on a the Wallonia farmhouse ales traditionally brewed during the cooler months and then sipped by farmhouse workers during the summer.  Saisons are fruity and highly carbonated.

The Saison Du Japon is about as refreshing as you'd demand from a saison, and I bet if I could get into a time machine and journey back a century to the times when saisons were being brewed farmhouse by farmhouse, I'd think Hitachino Nest's Japanese version trumped many of the originals.

But is it the saison to end all saisons?   Hitachino set the bar quite high with some of their other brews.  Saison Du Japon proves Hitachino can mimic and there is a hint that they can broaden, too.  But we already knew that.
