The Saison Du Japon is about as refreshing as you'd
demand from a saison. But is it the saison to end all
saisons? Saison Du Japon proves Hitachino can mimic and
there is a hint that they can broaden, too. But we
already knew that.

It's always an honor when I
get to try a new Hitachino Nest beer made by Kiuchi Brewery.
They've mimicked the craft beer revolution in the United
States, but then made their mark by being distinctly
Japanese. Hitachino seems to incorporate Japanese
ingredients and brewing techniques to come up with something
that you probably wouldn't find outside Japan.
Hitachino's Saison Du Japon is
their take on a the Wallonia farmhouse ales traditionally
brewed during the cooler months and then sipped by farmhouse
workers during the summer. Saisons are fruity and

if I could get into a time machine and journey back a
century to the times when saisons were being brewed
farmhouse by farmhouse, I'd think Hitachino Nest's Japanese
version trumped many of the originals.
But is it the saison to end
all saisons? Hitachino set the bar quite high
with some of their other brews. Saison Du Japon proves
Hitachino can mimic and there is a hint that they can
broaden, too. But we already knew that.
