Ginga Kogen Pale Ale
Posted: 2 June 2015  Beer Republic 5.5
Ginga Kogen Pale Ale from Japan No one can agree what kind of pale ale Ginga Kogen Pale Ale is.  Everyone agrees it ain't great.
Avg price/liter: USD 19.57   ABV %: 5.0  Type: Pale Ale

You can imagine after I gagged on Ginga Kogen's Hefeweizen that I suffered much trepidation about sampling their Pale Ale.

I'll give it to Ginga Kogen on the bottles.  They're attractive.  Very aesthetic Japanese design.   The Hefeweizen's high point was its silver bottle, which you should look at but never drink.  The Pale Ale bottle was a bit less attractive.  Did a less attractive bottle signify a better beer within?

No one can agree what kind of pale ale Ginga Kogen Pale Ale is.  One site calls it an English Pale Ale, another an American Pale Ale.  Everyone agrees it ain't great.

I drank some great craft beers when I was in Japan last summer.  I can't tell you the brands or styles because the labels were entirely in Japanese.  These weren't exported.  With just a few exceptions, most of the Japanese craft brews I've seen overseas have not been knock outs.  Ginga Kogen Pale Ale from Japan would be lucky to make it through the second round in a boxing match.
