Coedo Ruri
Posted: 14 June 2015  Beer Republic 7.5
Coedo Ruri from Japan Ruri is a pilsner, a light refreshing lager style first pioneered in the Czech Republic, just the sort of brew you'd expect Japanese people to love drinking with light Japanese cuisine. Ruri is the color of clear blue skies. For something clear and refreshing on a hot summer's day, having a Coedo Ruri nearby would be considered a very good idea.
Avg price/liter: USD 14.97   ABV %: 5.0  Type: Lager

I saved what I expected would be a decent Coedo beer for last.   Since the Japanese started industrial brewing in the latter part of the nineteenth century, they've concentrated predominantly on lagers.   There are other types, but among Japanese exports, lagers are the name of the game.

So I doubt there's any Japanese craft brewery that would ignore the lager style.   Coedo certainly doesn't.  They brew a black lager (Shikkoku) and a crimson lager (Kyara) and with Ruri, Coedo offers their most mainstream beer yet.  Ruri, according to Coedo, is the color of clear blue skies.  Coedo's names, I figured out from this brew, come from the color of the bottle label, not the color of the brew itself.  THe only way you'd wind up with a blue lager is to add something like butterfly pea leaves to it.

Ruri is a pilsner, a light refreshing lager style first pioneered in the Czech Republic, just the sort of brew you'd expect Japanese people to love drinking with light Japanese cuisine.

You won't be blown away by it. Pislners are such a simple clean style, it's asking a lot to be blown away.  Would you ever be blown away by a nursery rhyme?  But for something clear and refreshing on a hot summer's day, having a Coedo Ruri nearby would be considered a very good idea.
