Birra Moretti Baffo D'Oro
Posted: 3 July 2015  Beer Republic 4.0
Birra Moretti Baffo D'Oro from Italy Baffo D'Oro (translated: Whiskers of Gold) is Birra Moretti's upgrade version, made with 'premium' malts.  Baffo D'Oro is a multinational brew posing as a craft one.  To get some approximation of what I'm talking about, try to dissect the ideas in the recent movies Lucy and Transcendence while stoned.
Avg price/liter: USD 5.60   ABV %: 4.8  Type: Lager

Birra Moretti (i.e. Heineken masquerading under an Italian name) has six beers in its sexy portfolio.  Birra Moretti Lager is the generic euro lager meant to appeal to as many and offend as few people as possible.

Baffo D'Oro (translated: Whiskers of Gold) is Birra Moretti's upgrade version, made with 'premium' malts.  To be straight about it, I bought Baffo D'Oro completely by accident the day after I arrived in Italy.   I was heading back to my residence and zipped into a store to purchase a few beers for later chilling.  I'd done my research and knew the key Italian players.  Spotting 600 ml bottles of Peroni Red and Moretti, I grabbed them both.

I later met up with my brother and we sipped Baffo D'Oro in the dark on my back porch and were amazed -- in a bad way -- at its bitter flavors. Baffo D'Oro is a multinational brew posing as a craft one.  To get some approximation of what I'm talking about, try to dissect the ideas in the recent movies Lucy and Transcendence while stoned.  These are shallow products posing as deep.

You want the real unadulterated Italian experience?  Stick with the Birra Moretti Lager.  Being stoned would still be advised.
