Two Tales Brewing Bohemian Grapefruit Lager from Czech Republic Grapefruit in beer?  Is that some new trend I just hadn't heard about since I'm not trendy?  Two Tales Brewing Bohemian Grapefruit Lager s a beer you order once, brag you 'drank outside the box', and then forget about until you can brag to some other sucker later.

Grapefruit in beer?  Is that some new trend I just hadn't heard about since I'm not trendy?

Nope.   There are some companies -- very few -- doing things like grapefruit IPA's.  Far more common is the grapefruit radler, a blend of 40-50% lager with grapefruit soda.  This is a cousin to the shandy, which commonly uses carbonated lemon soda as the soft drink component.

The typical yellow grapefruit is sour.   Wouldn't adding a sour fruit to a lager ahead of time create a beer that was too sour?  With Mexican brews, hipsters like to drop a lime wedge in just before drinking, but in that case we're talking about fresh fruit.  The fresh juice imparts a different flavor.  But sour grapefruit added in the brewing process?

It wouldn't be my first choice, and the resultant combination of Two Tales Brewing Bohemian Grapefruit Lager is unusual but also unsatisfying.  This is a beer you order once, brag you 'drank outside the box', and then forget about until you can brag to some other sucker later.

Have your grapefruits at breakfast.
