Lervig Rye IPA
Posted: 28 July 2015  Beer Republic 7.0
Lervig Rye IPA from Norway This is a beer American Jews should embrace.  Americans Jews love rye. 20% of this beer is made from rye malt.   It's hopped up good and fine like an IPA should  be -- with Simcoe, Chinook, and Amarillo hops varieties.  You'll have sipped better IPA's, but none with rye malt.
Avg price/liter: USD 9.82   ABV %: 8.5  Type: IPA

This is a beer American Jews should embrace.  Americans Jews love rye.  At a delicatessen,  what do Jews eat?  Pastrami on rye.  Corned beef on rye.  Not on whole wheat or sesame raisin.  Too bad there aren't a lot of American Jews living in Norway.

20% of this beer is made from rye malt.   It's hopped up good and fine like an IPA should  be -- with Simcoe, Chinook, and Amarillo hops varieties.

A lot of craft breweries today, to get attention, pull brewing gimmicks.  They'll add an unusual ingredient or herb not commonly seen in beer in order to get attention, and most of the time this addition doesn't do anything to make the beer memorable or improve its taste.  Lervig isn't pulling any gimmicks here.  They want to do something different for their Brewer's Reserve range.  Using rye malt in an IPA, while not exactly brilliant enough to call a work of genius, actually does make some sense -- like addiing potato as a topping to pizzas.

You'll have sipped better IPA's, but none with rye malt.  It's a tasty enough entrant to be worthy of your mouth.
