Tennent's Beer Aged With
Whisky Oak is a beer no beer chugger in his right mind would
refuse. Technically, this is a lager brewed with bottom
fermentation. The beer is then aged in Single Malt Whisky
infused oak chips to impart oak, vanilla, and whisky
flavors. Will it blow you away? Probably not.
Avg price/liter: USD 5.91
ABV %: 6,5
Type: Lager
Here's what I like to see
when a mainstream brewery steps up to bat. Show me
something I haven't seen before. It's a foregone
conclusion a mainstreamer isn't going to brew a beer with as
high quality ingredients or handcrafted care. They're
designed to brew in big batches to big groups of consumers.
So Tennent's Beer Aged With
Whisky Oak is a beer no beer chugger in his right mind would
refuse. Who better positioned to brew a beer which
fuses whisky and beer traditions in one bottle?
I've seen this beer described
as a fusion ale-lager and questioned how that could be.
A lager uses bottom fermented yeast, an ale top fermented.
Technically, this is a lager brewed with bottom
fermentation. Let's get straight on that. But
the beer is warmly matured and quickly like an ale would be.
The beer is then aged in Single Malt Whisky infused oak
chips to impart oak, vanilla, and whisky flavors.
Will it blow you away?
Probably not. In the last month, I can name you three
lagers which soundly blew this one away.
But had I ever sampled a
lager aged in whisky oak to give it whisky characteristics?
Never. And so for a rather ununusal beer tasting
experience that won't deplete your wallet, Tennent's Beer
Aged With Whisky Oak is one I couldn't advise you to ignore.
