Brewdog India Pale Weizen
Posted: 30 July 2015  Beer Republic 7.5
Brewdog Paleweizen from UK The unusual aspect of the India Pale Weizen is that it's a traditional German wheat beer hopped up like an IPA.   I wouldn't pronounce this my newest favorite style.  You couldn't ask for more than a combo like this.  I am surprised other breweries don't specialize in this type of hybrid.
Avg price/liter: USD 13.15   ABV %: 6.2  Type: German Wheat

The bottle of Brewdog's Paleweizen is misleading.   On the bottle it reads "Brewdog vs. Weihenstephan".  Like the breweries are in competition.

No, actually the breweries are in collaboration.  Weihenstephaner is the oldest brewery in the world and based in Germany.  Its signature beers are German style wheats, weizen beers.

Brewdog of Scotland claims to be be sitting on the throne of American style IPA's  India Pale Weizen is supposed to be a fusion of the two styles.  Banana clove wheat flavors combined with two types of American hops.  The unusual aspect of this beer is that it's a traditional German wheat beer hopped up like an IPA.

And what a combo.  I wouldn't pronounce this my newest favorite style.   I'd prefer, I think, to enjoy a traditional German wheat best in class separately from a traditional IPA that was also best in its class.  But as a new beer in which to challenge my taste buds and elevate my experiences. You couldn't ask for more than a combo like this.  I am surprised other breweries don't specialize in this type of hybrid.

Unless you hate BOTH styles already, you won't be disappointed.
