Liefmans Fruitesse
Posted: 19 August 2015  Beer Republic 7.0
Liefmans Fruitesse from Belgium Liefmans Fruitesse 'on the rocks' is one beer you can actually sip with ice added.  Liefmans bills it as a sparkling appetizer beer.  This is one fruit beer I might consider drinking with my next piece of chocolate cake or apple pie.   I'll make sure to consume the desserts as appetizers.
Avg price/liter: USD 7.99   ABV %: 3.8  Type: Lambic-Fruit  Belgium

Liefmans is an old Belgian brewery hailing back to 1679.  Then it went bankrupt in 2008 until it was bought out by Duval, another respected Belgian brewery.  With that bit of history out of that way, keep in mind that your Liefmans brew really may not be made with 300+ years of experience.   Liefmans Fruitesse is only as old as the summer of 2009.

And who cares as long as it tastes good.   Liefmans Fruitesse 'on the rocks' is one beer you can actually sip with ice added.  Liefmans bills it as a sparkling appetizer beer, and it would be easy for someone drinking this to think it's not beer at all.  Made with strawberries, raspberries, black cherries, elderberries, and blueberries, Fruitesse is like a beer cocktail mix ready to go.

The beer makes no pretenses at being a fine artisanal fruit beer and isn't priced as such. They use natural fruit juices and brew them with barley balts, Herkules hops.  It's sweet enough without being distracting.

This is one fruit beer I might consider drinking with my next piece of chocolate cake or apple pie.  I'll make sure to consume the desserts as appetizers.
