Fruli Strawberry
Posted: 21 August 2015  Beer Republic 6.0
Fruli Strawberry from Belgium Fruli is 70% Belgian wheat beer and 30% pure strawberry juice.  A better description would be sweetened strawberry juice.  If it's going to be Strawberry Fields forever, it's not such a bad thing to have a Fruli Strawberry Beer there with you when you check in.
Avg price/liter: USD 7.37   ABV %: 4.1  Type: Lambic-Fruit  Belgium

The same Belgian brewery near Ghent behind the Floris line of beers steps forward with Fruli Strawberry Beer.  Unlike the Floris line, which has fruit beers in different flavors, Fruli only comes in strawberry.

In 2009, believe it or not, Fruli was voted the World's Best Fruit Beer at the World Beer Awards. That sounds as credible as a movie like Invasion of the Ant People winning World's Best Movie at the World Movie Awards.

Fruli is 70% Belgian wheat beer and 30% pure strawberry juice. Let's just say those percentages are rounded up.  The ingredients in a Fruli come down to water, barley malt, wheat, hops, and yeast (the wheat beer part) and strawberry juice AND FRUCTOSE (the starwberry juice part).  If you want to define pure strawberry juice as strawberry juice plus fructose than, yes, 30% of this beer is pure strawberry juice.  A better description would be sweetened strawberry juice.

The good news is that fruit beers aren't fruit sodas. One can of soda contains over 30 grams of sugar.  The strawberry taste blends better with the floral background lightly hopped wheat beer by being a bit sweet.  I found myself swilling this bottle as if I were drinking a refreshing and more natural strawberry soda.

At 4.1% ABV, this is a stronger alcoholic fruit beer than most.  If it's going to be Strawberry Fields forever, it's not such a bad thing to have a Fruli Strawberry Beer there with you when you check in.
