Chapeau Fraise
Posted: 26 August 2015  Beer Republic 6.0
Chapeau Fraise from Belgium De Troch's Chapeau Fraise  -- you don't have to read French to understand the label, just look at the picture -- works well in lambic form because strawberries impart a juice flavor that's not diminished without eating the entire fruit and because a sour strawberry taste is likely something you've already consumed.
Avg price/liter: USD 10.80   ABV %: 3.0  Type: Lambic-Fruit  Belgium

Lambics are a style, I am afraid, that not everyone is going to love.  The sour taste can be offputting to those unfamiliar with it.  And lambics tend to have fruit in them.   Many are not accustomed to tasting fruits in their beer.  You can't win 'em all.

De Troch Chapeau Fraise  -- you don't have to read French to understand the label, just look at the picture -- works well in lambic form because strawberries impart a juice flavor that's not diminished without eating the entire fruit and because a sour strawberry taste is likely something you've already consumed.

These Chapeau lambics sneak up on you.   Not is under 3% in alcohol and come in 250 ml bottles.  Sipping one with your lunch or, more appropriately, your dessert, isn't going to get you tipsy.  But try having one, then another, then another, after a gym workout, and you'll feel the effects.   It's too easy to think of these as non-alcoholic.

If a gun were at my head and I were ordered to buy a Chapeau of any type, I'd pick this one.  Does that make you feel better?

San Michele La Valchiria from Italy -- 5.0% alcohol by volume
Aspall Premium Cru from UK -- 7.0% alcohol by volume
