Birradamare Birra Roma Ambrata from Italy Birradamare describes Ambrata as a Oktoberfest/Märzen beer. A märzen beer is, traditionally, a lager from Bavaria brewed in March. Märzens are generally malty and dry.  Highly recommended, even in May, June, November, and December.    Hey, drink it any time!

Ambrata is another one of those Italian styles or adjectives.  You can't really say which.  To say it's a style is probably incorrect.  There are some purveyors of ambrata beers in Italy who call their ambrata beers a Vienna lager style.  Birradamare describes theirs as a Oktoberfest/Märzen beer.

A märzen beer is, traditionally, a lager from Bavaria brewed in March.  Bavarian brewing ordinances pronounced that beer could only be produced between late September and late April.  The märzen beers were brewed as dark brown and full bodied to last through the summer months. Märzens are generally malty and dry.

My wife and I got the chance to try a few of these at an Italian restaurant here in Bangkok serving Napoli style pizzas.  She fell in love with woodsy and aromatic taste immediately.   The Ambrata was full bodied and rich with a well developed flavor.

Highly recommended, even in May, June, November, and December.    Hey, drink it any time!  But drink it outside Italy.  In Italy, you'll have a hard time finding it.
