Deschutes River Ale from USA What the hell is a river ale? What the hell is a river ale?  An ale made from river water?  An ale you drink by the river?  And ale you cook with as you sing "Old Man River"?

I don't think Deschutes even knows. Deschutes calls it crisp, sessionable, and undeniably refreshing."  Those terms are about as vague as a politician's campaign promises.  About the only thing that can be quantified is that does qualify as a session beer by limiting conventional definitions with an ABV of 3.9%.

And that's about that can be said about Deschutes River Ale.   It ain't bad, but it ain't particularly memorable.  Its lower alcohol content is its selling point.   Want to chug a 6-pack of Deschutes by the river, in your RV, or stoned on the roof of your apartment building?  Deschutes River Ale is the bottle you want pushed up near your pie hole.

Would I  buy it again?  Sure -- if I had to remain somewhat sober during a four hour lecture on the cross pollination of sprawling duneweed by various African fruit flies.  If one were allowed to get drunk or pass out during that lecture, no one would regularly touch this
