Movenpick Maple Walnut
Posted: 29 October 2010    9.0
Movenpick Maple Walnut I discovered that this bar is really milk chocolate with hazelnuts in maple syrup caramelized walnut splinters. It's not your typical hazelnut bar either. The fillings are ground so fine that you taste them, but don't see them. Hazelnuts ground to a fine texture within chocolate probably would've been fine on their own. With the addition of maple syrup and walnuts, it's splendid.

How do you know when you've met your soul mate?  You're at the grocery store and despite the fact your girlfriend is not enamored with chocolate, she selects a 100 gram Swiss bar off the shelves, which costs 75% of an Isaan luncheon for three in Thailand, smiles at you, and shouts, "Viva the Chocolate Republic!"

This was the third Swiss chocolate bar my girlfriend bought me in three weeks and for a non-chocoholic, she sure knows how to pick 'em.  Not only does she have great taste in clothes, interior design, (and men), she can also select winner chocolate bars.

It seems you can't go wrong with Movenpick.   The last Movenpick she picked up to surprise me, the White Lemon, was so damned good that she repurchased one for herself!

The maple-walnut combo was a new one.   After reviewing dozens of bars on the Chocolate Republic, I've come across myriads of hazelnuts, almonds, fruits, and caramels.  Not once, until now, had anyone thought to stick maple and walnut in a bar.

Reading the ingredient listing, which was only printed in German, I discovered that this bar is really milk chocolate with hazelnuts in maple syrup caramelized walnut splinters.  It's not your typical hazelnut bar either.  The fillings are ground so fine that you taste them, but don't see them.  Hazelnuts ground to a fine texture within chocolate probably would've been fine on their own.  With the addition of maple syrup and walnuts, it's splendid.  The ingredients show that only 7% of the bar is composed of the maple syrup-walnut combo and in lesser hands, one could brand the manufacturer a cheapskate.  But with Movenpick's chocolatey expert touch, 7% is neither too little nor too much.  Any more and the bar would have an overly strong maple flavor that would undermine the luscious milk chocolate and make tasters, heaven forbid, think it was Canadian.

Movenpick isn't the cheapest range of Swiss bars out there, but next to a lot of the 'boutique' Australian slop Aussie Dave has been mailing me recently, this bar would be considered a bargain.   I have no problem paying extra for something that delivers the extra, and Movenpick, on two occasions so far, has shown it can deliver on time and on schedule.

There's a third Movenpick bar available at our local store.  I won't wait for the girlfriend to buy that one.
