Whittaker's Fruit & Nut
Posted: 21 November 2010    8.0
Whittaker Fruit & Nut A good chocolate bar is all about balance, and Whittaker's, most of the time, seems to know exactly what they're doing. As far as fruit & nut combos go, this was as good as I've tried.

Lucky me.   In less than a week I've sampled more than a half dozen decidedly average Korjap chocolates.  "Enough!" I screamed.  I followed those up with three steadily worsening overhyped German brands.  I again screamed "Enough!"  As I was cleaning out my refrigerator last night, in the very back I noticed a bar of Whittaker's Fruit & Nut.  It must have been there for the last month or two, tucked there by me when Aussie Dave sent a prior parcel of Whittaker's over a month ago and since forgotten.  I've been trying to add more fruit to my diet.  Why not start now with a Fruit & Nut bar?

The Whittaker's Fruit & Nut is not comprised of Whittaker's typical creamy milk chocolate base of 33%.   It doesn't even use the regular milk chocolate base of 24% you'll find in their Cashew Nut.  No.  Whittaker's had adjusted the blend to 23% and used milk solids of 21%.  They're just as generous with the fillings as they've always been, using an equal amount of raisins (14%) as they do almonds.

I'm not, by trade, a fruit & nut lover.   Put fruit in my chocolate or, better, put nuts, but not both.   I now think my bias was formed because all prior combos that I've tried were made with inferior milk chocolate and improper balances of the fruit and the nuts.   Whittaker addresses the world's gross imbalances with this bar and makes the planet a better place to live in.

This bar proves my prior contention that Whittaker's would've been better of leaving the rum out of their Rum & Raisin fiasco and just using raisins. A good chocolate bar is all about balance, and Whittaker's, most of the time, seems to know exactly what they're doing.  As far as fruit & nut combos go, this was as good as I've tried.
