Review: Godiva Dark Chocolate with 85% Ganache
Godiva Dark Chocolate with 85%
Posted: 8 January 2011
Godiva blends their ganache so smooth and adds liqueurs, extracts, perhaps even artificial flavors or colors disguised under different names to come up with a real treat. Stuffed into the already flavorful Dark, and you can't go wrong after you've mortgaged your house to buy it.

Godiva is on a roll at the
Chocolate Republic. Just check my reviews for their
Dark chocolate bars,
and you'll know I've been converted from a skeptic to a fan.
Is Godiva using premium ingredients in every bar? I doubt it! On
reading the back of the bar, I got the strong impression that slick
packaging, a Godiva brand name, and hefty prices would convince the masses
they were in the presence of astounding chocolate, and this marketing con
seems to be working splendidly. More than 450 retail boutiques
have people lining up to pay premium moolah to indulge. Turkish
company, Yildiz Holding, now owners of Godiva, must be eating their doner
debabs stuffed into a pita with a lot of dollar notes.
The top chocolatiers list cocoa solid content on every bar. Godiva
doesn't. They don't want to come down and play with the smaller fry
when they already have a big name to protect. Except for this bar and
the Dark, which list cocoa solids on the front (but not the back), the rest
of the Godiva bars lacked this vital piece of information. I was able to
scour the internet to dig up some cocoa solid facts. An e-mail to
Godiva went unanswered. Why answer when you're going to admit the
cocoa solids ain't on the high side?
Well, this Dark Chocolate (72%) bar stuffed with 85% Ganache is on the high
side, the high side of cocoa and the high side of deliciousness.
Ganache is created by heating heavy cream and then draping it over chopped
dark bittersweet chocolate and then blended until smooth. Godiva
blends their ganache so smooth and adds liqueurs, extracts, perhaps even
artificial flavors or colors disguised under different names to come up with
a real treat. Stuffed into the already flavorful Dark, and you
can't go wrong after you've mortgaged your house to buy it.
Yildiz is doing something right with their new buy. We're sure costs
are being trimmed, inferior ingredients being substituted for fine ones.
If this supposition is correct, Yildiz is hiring some innovative taste
experts to keep the common man thinking the textures and flavors are
sublime. Enjoy -- and consider some EDTA chelation therapy afterwards
to clear out the arteries.
Godiva in Belgium makes tasty dark chocolate with 85% ganache.
You been to Belgium? Belgian chocolate in question is the dark chocolate with 85% ganache with high cocoa solids. Full of rich Belgian chocolate. The Chocolate Republic
goes to Yildiz to investigate. Read Doug at Doug's Republic
