Redstone's Jalapeno
Posted: 25 October 2012    4.5
Redstone Jalapeno from USA This bar has the same 34% Belgian Callebaut chocolate base. But instead of overly sweet artificially flavored goo crammed into every bite, we get salted peanuts and jalapenos. Okay, sorry. Jalapeno pepper powder. I could advise you not to search this one out, but that would be tantamount to advising you not to jump off the Empire State Building.

Redstone Foods from Carrollton, Texas moves up the food chain slightly from their Margarita offering with this Jalapeno bar.

This bar has the same 34% Belgian Callebaut chocolate base.  But instead of overly sweet artificially flavored goo crammed into every bite, we get salted peanuts and jalapenos.  Okay, sorry.  Jalapeno pepper powder.  Only a premium manufacturer would insert real jalapenos into every bite.

This was a much less risky proposition.  Redstone is combining Belgian chocolate, though watered down to 34%, with surefire favorites like roasted peanuts.  Nothing revolutionary there.  Hershey has been doing that with Mr. Goodbar since 1925.

The jalapeno (powder) addition, obtained from an international flavor house according to Vice President of Redstone, Josh Rothstein, could have been innovative.  It's not.  The jalapeno flavor isn't sharp, distinctive, or remotely fiery. So what remain is an overpriced, rather average peanut chocolate bar with a few hints of some kind of chili.

I could advise you not to search this one out, but that would be tantamount to advising you not to jump off the Empire State Building.  Unless you live near New York City (to jump off the Empire State Building) or somewhere near Carrolton, Texas or any of the places to which Redstone distributes (to buy this chocolate), you're not going to be doing either even if you stupidly wanted to.
