Amedei Toscano Red
Posted: 3 November 2012    7.5
Amedei Toscano Red from Italy The Toscano Red contains cocoa mass, cane sugar, cocoa butter, and vanilla.   The addition, the "red", is dried fruit, consisting of strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. Amedei claims the fruit flavor is infused in a special process.   Whatever they did, the combination is wonderful. The fusion of the three berries sends off little mini explosions in your mouth as you chew the all too tiny 50 gram bar.
Avg price/gram: USD 0.156   Cocoa %: 70  Size: 50g

I was not madly impressed, based on the prices I paid, with the first Amedei bar I ever tried, the Cru Jamaica.    I was hoping that my taste buds would be shot into the stratosphere after biting into the second bar, the Toscano Red.

The Toscano Red contains the same basic ingredient list as the Cru Jamaica: cocoa mass, cane sugar, cocoa butter, and vanilla.  From where these beans hail I haven't a clue.  The addition, the "red", is dried fruit, consisting of strawberries, cherries, and raspberries.  Amedei claims the fruit flavor is infused in a special process.

Whatever they did, the combination is wonderful.  The fusion of the three berries, not berry powders as cheaper competitors would use, sends off little mini explosions in your mouth as you chew the all too tiny 50 gram bar.

I might be persuaded to pay an outrageous price for a one-of-a-kind cake made with a unique ingredient combination I knew I'd be unlikely to try again soon.  That is, more or less, how I feel about paying what I did for the Toscano Red.  By now, with all my sampling experience at the Chocolate Republic, I've yet to try a berry bar that made this kind of positive impression on my taste buds.

I enjoyed the Toscano Red so much, I was quite eager to dig into my last two Amedei bars, the "9," a 75% cocoa solid bar crafted from cocoas from 9 different plantations, and the Toscano Black, another 70% bar.  Sadly, the bars were nowhere to be found.  The last two bars went AWOL when I transported them in my guitar case from my brother's place in California to my own in Thailand.   Could I have lost them as my guitar case was being meticulously searched by airport security at San Francisco International Airport?    We all know how much terrorists love Amedei chocolates.

Amedei from Italy sells a Toscano red, made with berries. It is dark. Dark chocolate and berries. What does the Chocolate Republic think?
