Nestle Strawberry Cheesecake Kit Kat
Posted: 31 March 2014    6.0
Nestle Kit Kat Strawberry Cheesecake from Japan The Japanese are an ambitious lot, aren't they? The Japanese had to call this Kit Kat Strawberry Cheesecake, a much more ambitious title with a lot more to live up to. I'm happy to say the Japanese failed here. To be entirely transparent, I despise cheesecake of any sort. This Strawberry Cheesecake bar tastes like a regular Kit Kat with a faint taste of artificial strawberry. Should this be the only exotic Japanese Kit Kat bar you have the opportunity to sample, you won't be humming "Strawberry Fields Forever," though you will be humming.

The Japanese are an ambitious lot, aren't they?  If you believe the official history of World War II, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor only to awaken a sleeping giant. When asked for an unconditional surrender in 1945, the Japanese refused until they were A-bombed, not once, but twice.

Now you have today's peaceful Japanese of Nestle Japan coming out with a Strawberry Cheesecake Kit Kat.  What's so ambitious about that, you may ask?   Well, it's not called Strawberry.  That's what most chocolate manufacturers would call a chocolate bar tasting of strawberry essence.  Nope.  The Japanese had to call it Strawberry Cheesecake, a much more ambitious title with a lot more to live up to.

I'm happy to say the Japanese failed here. To be entirely transparent, I despise cheesecake of any sort, even chocolate cheesecake.  The foretaste of a cheesecake tastes like the adjective used to describe the cheesecake, be it chocolate, strawberry, banana.  It's the aftertaste, the cheese part, I don't like.  I came close to almost liking cheesecake many years ago, but that aftertaste just grew on me, in a bad way, to the point where I've sworn off cheesecake for decades.

So if the Japanese had succeeded and created a Strawberry Cheesecake Kit Kat bar tasting exactly like a genuine strawberry cheesecake, then I would've been fated to hate it. Instead, this Strawberry Cheesecake bar tastes like a regular Kit Kat with a faint taste of artificial strawberry.  To get your taste buds around what the artificial strawberry flavor tastes like, imagine the taste of Franken-Berry cereal, if you're an American reader old enough to have experienced the cereal purported to turn children's bowel movements pink from the copious quantities of artificial dyes added to this "nutritious" breakfast.  Likewise, pick up a Cornetto or similar ice cream bar flavored with strawberry.

The Strawberry Cheesecake is no knock-one-out-of-the-park home run, but it's not a strikeout either.  Should this be the only exotic Japanese Kit Kat bar you have the opportunity to sample, you won't be humming "Strawberry Fields Forever," though you will be humming.
