Jacquot Dark Chocolate Pecan

Jacquot Dark Chocolate Pecan from France Can someone really be doing something for close to one hundred years and never get competent at it? Jacquot proves you can. There's a lot wrong with this bar. I kid you not. Any mass produced chocolate bar you grew up eating during your youth, even ignoring the nostalgia factor, IS better tasting than this Jacquot Dark Chocolate Pecan.

It was bound to happen after over four years of reviewing chocolate bars.  I would review a bar so heinous and overrated, I would give it the lowest rating I could.

But could I have imagined it would be a bar from France, by a company which claims to have been producing chocolates since 1920?  Can someone really be doing something for close to one hundred years and never get competent at it?  Jacquot proves you can.

There's a lot wrong with this bar.  First, it's posing as a premium brand.  No problem not being one, but I hate pretenders.  There's an emblem in English and French on the front wrapper reading "French Chocolate/Chocolat Francias," a clear gambit to be associated with the high quality French products are generally known for.  Sorry, Monsieur.  Valrhona this ain't.   Second, it's not really a dark chocolate bar with a cocoa solid content of 49%.  Third, the chocolate was so overly sweet that it drowned out any taste of the chocolate itself.  Maybe that was the intention all along.

What's worse, I found an article from 2013 on Confectionary News about the parent company Cémoi, the "brain child" behind this abomination. Cémoi feels that with their "French touch" and ethically sourced (but sh-ttily processed) cacao, they are poised to take their private label services to the US, Asia, South American, and possibly to the moon and Alpha Centauri. It's easy to daydream when you've been freebasing too much crack cacao.

I kid you not.  Any mass produced chocolate bar you grew up eating during your youth, even ignoring the nostalgia factor, IS better tasting than this Jacquot Dark Chocolate Pecan.

Veterans who saw death firsthand and barely escaped live with that nightmare the rest of their lives.  I'm a veteran of bad tasting chocolate and the nightmare I have to live with is Jacquot.  Don't go to sleep after eating this bar!
